Children with Special Needs (BCMH)

The Bureau for Children with Medical Handicaps (BCMH) is a health care program from the Ohio Department of Health. BCMH links families of children with special health care needs to a network of quality providers to find out if a child has an eligible condition and treat those that do. BCMH will pay for many services like doctor visits, hospital stays, lab and x-ray testing, medicines, surgeries, and special medical equipment. You must live in Ohio, be under 21, have eligible medical concerns, and see a BCMH approved doctor.

BCMH will pay for tests/visits to find out if a child has and eligible condition regardless of income and a specific treatment plan for families that qualify financially. BCMH financial guidelines are higher than other state programs and many middle-income families will qualify for assistance. Families who have Medicaid/Insurance may need BCMH as back-up coverage for specific services needed. There are many eligible conditions so please contact your local health department for a BCMH nurse and further information.
